Best Place to Stay at the Chandeleur Islands
Chandeleur Island Fishing
The Chandeleur Islands offer an incredible diversity of fishing options each day. We will have two experienced hosts on board each trip and they will help you plan your day and make sure you are fishing in productive areas.
Each pair of guests will be assigned a skiff for the day. We have historically used the Carolina Skiffs typical of all Chandeleur operations but are in the process of transitioning to more functional poling skiffs that will expand the fishing opportunities for our guests. These skiffs will be outfitted with a GPS and a VHF radio in case you need to contract the Pelican or other skiffs.
When the weather is good there is no better fishing than wading the “surf” side of North Chandeleur. You can easily access the backside of the island in numerous places and walk across to the east side to cast from the beach or nearshore bars. The island has myriad ponds and sloughs that offer fantastic fishing in the fall through early spring and the grass flats along the west side of the island are productive in almost any condition.
The Chandeleurs offer a mix of drift fishing and wade fishing and you can choose to do either or both. Our new skiffs will also allow you to pole and hunt for sight-fishing opportunities if you want an additional challenge.
When you return to the Pelican our hosts will clean your catch and bag it for you to take home.
If you don’t want to spend all your time fishing North Chandeleur offers incredible beachcombing and shelling. Birders will also find plenty of opportunities in this unique ecosystem.
